Chapman Freeborn's well oiled network transports drilling equipment to Guinea

1st September 2008

Chapman Freeborn Airchartering has coordinated the movement of over 120 tons of drilling equipment from Belo Horizonte in Brazil to Conakry, Guinea, to support an offshore project in the Gulf of Guinea.

The operation involved two rotations of a DC10-30F aircraft and represents the latest in a series of flights the global air charter specialist has arranged for the oil and gas industry in the last three months.

The charters were managed on behalf of an Australian freight forwarder and required the support of Chapman Freeborn's Singapore, Brazil and USA offices.

Chapman Freeborn's Singapore hub sourced its client two DC10-30F aircraft with the help of its USA office in Fort Lauderdale.

The first rotation saw 57,000 kgs of cargo moved from Confins Airport (CNF) to Conakry (CKY) on a non-stop flight. The second consignment of 71,000 kgs was delivered five days later, via a fuel stop in Recife (REC).

Prior to dispatch for loading, the drilling equipment required formal packaging checks at the shipper's facility in Belo Horizonte. Chapman Freeborn's Sao Paulo office coordinated the inspection with the operator, the client's local representatives and local subcontractors.

Further support was provided by UK-based Chapman Freeborn subsidiary Paragon Global Flight Support, which coordinated all flight permits and ground handling arrangements in Brazil.

Mark Middleton, director of Chapman Freeborn's Singapore office said:

"The operation demonstrates the scope of our global network and its ability to assist clients with complex cargo requirements.

"Utilising our offices in Brazil and the USA, we were able to help an Australian client undertake a challenging cargo operation on the other side of the world ."
